Is your child interested in a rich musical experience and the enjoyment of participating in the school band program? If so, now is the time to act. The school offers such an opportunity to all of its students. If your child is interested in the school band program during all or any part of the next eight years, we urge you to investigate this opportunity.
With all of the COVID-19 restrictions we are trying to connect with our incoming 5th grade students that are interested in playing in band and obviously have to do so differently. We would typically be doing many things to help them choose a preferred instrument and get them excited about the opportunities of the band experience.
Choosing the correct instrument is very important. We have found that it is best to rent an instrument instead of purchasing one. Your rental money is applied to the purchase price and you will not have the expense of buying an instrument outright. We ask that you contact the local music store to get information on their band instrument rental plans.
Students that have an instrument available to them through family or friends need to ensure that it is in proper working condition. Taking it to one of the local music stores would be the best way to have it checked over and make sure the instrument is good playing condition.
Band classes will not begin until fall. We will be offering a Summer Jump Start Day on Wednesday, August 5th, 2020. We will meet with parents and students for an hour according to what instrument they have chosen. Those sessions and times are as follow: from 5:30-6:30 pm Trumpet/Trombones; 6:30-7:30pm Flute/Percussion; and 7:30-8:30pm is Alto Saxophone and Clarinet at Tri-Valley High School Music room. This is if COVID-19 restrictions are lifted at that time. This will give each of our students an opportunity to pick up their rented instruments and learn the basics of assembly, hand position and tone production prior to the opening of the school year. We will discuss the band program and answer any questions you may have.
