ART News from Mrs. Shirer

Artist Kelsey Montague

You may remember seeing the painted wings on the stage from the Open House before school started. You might want to check out how they have transformed when we added the feathers. All of the classes have been so inspired by the Interactive street artist: Kelsey Montague. In fact, she inspired me so much as a teacher that we did multiple projects about her including: portfolios, collage and a flock of birds in the art hallway. Recently, I began an account on Instagram showcasing student art. If you have Instagram, please follow me: @thepinkrainbows or search for Dresden and Adamsville Elementary Art. Our year in art has gotten off to a fabulous start. You can also stay updated by checking out my teacher webpage:

http://sshirer.wix.com/rainbow#!about/c10fk

Don't forget that Zanesville has a beautiful museum. It is always free on Thursdays. It is located on Military Rd behind Little Caesars. They have wonderful programs for children and adults too! Currently, they are exhibiting a printmaking collection of Rembrandt works. They are so beautiful and will be there now through Jan. 5th. They also have a coloring contest for kids. Be sure to check out their website at: www.zanesvilleart.org

CELEBRATION OF

THE ARTS

Friday March 23rd

6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.

Join us at Tri-Valley High School for a night of exciting musical selections and art showcases from each of the schools in our district!

cave

This year Celebration of the Arts will be held at the high school on

Friday, March 23, 2018 from 6 to 8:30pm.

There will of course be Music and Art there. However, the Art will be something a bit untraditional. You’ll have to see it to believe it! The kids have been working hard at Adamsville and Dresden to make a CAVE. You will be able to take a guided tour through a cave. This style of ART is called an INSTALLATION.  Families will be able to walk through and learn about Lascaux.

(pronounced in French: “LAS-CO”)

We hope you will add this fun event to your calendar! Please know that there will be very few individual works of art there as the past 2 months our focus has been on TEAMWORK together creating a school-wide effort to simulate the cave. As you arrive you will be greeted by cave girls and cave boys dressed in garbage bags ready to take you back in time to prehistoric Lascaux, France.

We hope to see you there!

Mrs. Baughman's 5th graders with their MCCPS supplies.

Each classroom adopted a service project this last quarter. The charities ranged from pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House, treat bags for our Musk Co Sheriff Dept, comfort items for children taken into Children Protective Services, and economic projects that raised funds to plant a tree in memorial of our Mayor Ellen Merriam with funds left over to buy over 100 items for our library. As a school and community, we raised over $1200 for the American Cancer Society. WAY TO GO ADAMSVILLE ELEMENTARY!

GIRL SCOUTS

Girl Scout Sign up is on Monday, September 16th and Thursday, September 19th from 5:00-6:00pm at Adamsville Elementary.  Girl Scouts exists to meet the needs of every girl in a one-of-a-kind, girl-centric and girl-driven environment. Here girls find courage to explore new adventures, confidence in their uniqueness, character to stand by their values, and they create lifelong connections to peers and mentors. As they develop their leadership skills, Girl Scouts learn to “pay it forward” by becoming the next generation of women leaders, who serve and reinvest in their communities.   Our troop is for girls in Kindergarten thru 12th grade.  If you have any questions please contact Barb Knicely 796-4050.
